In diesem Jahr wird es fast 20 Jahre her sein, seit John Eliot Gardiner die bahnbrechende Bach Cantata Pilgrimage im Jahr 2000 leitete, als er die bahnbrechende Tournee des Monteverdi Chors und der English Baroque Soloists in 198 Kirchen in ganz Europa und den USA leitete.

Ab Mai 2018 werden sich John Eliot Gardiner und die beiden berühmten Ensembles von dieser phänomenalen Leistung inspirieren lassen und ein neues Bach Cantata Projekt beginnen. Diese zweimonatige Tour wird ein sorgfältig ausgewähltes Programm von Kantaten aus dem gesamten liturgischen Kalender für das Publikum in bedeutenden Konzertsälen und Kirchen in ganz Europa bringen.

Mai 2018
Der erste Teil der Bach-Kantatenrundreise beginnt mit elf europäischen Dates, darunter Besuche im Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, der Frauenkirche bei den Dresdner Musikfestspielen und im Musikverein in Wien. Es folgen Auftritte an der Liszt Akademie in Budapest und ein Besuch des prestigeträchtigen Prager Frühlingsfestivals bevor die Tournee in Italien mit Konzerten in Perugia, Pavia und Bologna beendet wird.

Das Programm während dieses Teils der Tour wird ein gemischtes Programm von Höhepunkten von Ostern, Dreieinigkeit und Adventskantaten umfassen, die das Publikum auf eine Reise durch den heiligen Kalender führen und einige von Bachs schönsten und einprägsamsten Chorwerken präsentieren werden.

JUNI 2018
Dann, im Juni, widmen wir uns einer vielversprechenden Reihe von Kantatenaufführungen in Leipzig, wo John Eliot Gardiner als Präsident des Bach-Archivs eine beeindruckende Liste der weltbesten Bach-Künstler zusammengestellt hat. Dazu gehören Ton Koopman mit seinem Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir, Masaaki Suzuki mit dem Bach Collegium Japan und das Gaechinger Cantorey mit ihrem neuen Regisseur Hans-Christoph Rademan sowie Bachs eigener Chor, der Thomanerchor Leipzig mit dem Gewandhausorchester unter Thomaskantor Gotthold Schwarz.

Gemeinsam mit John Eliot Gardiner und dem Monteverdi – Chor nimmt sie am Leipziger Kantatenring teil: 30 geistliche Kantaten, die an einem einzigen Wochenende zyklisch aufgeführt werden, wechselnd zwischen den Kirchen St. Thomas und St. Nikolaus und arrangiert von der Ort jeder Kantate im liturgischen Jahr – vom ersten Adventssonntag bis zum 27. Sonntag nach dem Dreifaltigkeitssonntag. Dieser „Ring“ der Kantaten wird dann vom 15. bis 17. Juni 2018 sein und am Bachwochenende zum London’s Barbican reisen, bevor die Tour endet in Paris mit einer letzten Reihe von Kantatenaufführungen in der Chapelle Royale, Versailles und der Basilique de St Denis.

This year it will be close to twenty years since the momentous Bach Cantata Pilgrimage in 2000 when John Eliot Gardiner led the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists trailblazing tour, performing all 198 of Bach’s sacred Cantatas in more than 60 churches throughout Europe and the US.

Starting in May John Eliot Gardiner and the same two celebrated ensembles will draw inspiration from that phenomenal achievement and embark on a major new Bach Cantata project. This two-month tour will bring a carefully selected programme of Cantatas from across the liturgical calendar to audiences in prominent concert halls and churches throughout Europe.

MAY 2018
The first part of the Bach Cantata Ring tour will commence with eleven European dates including visits to the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, the Frauenkirche at the Dresden Music Festival and the Musikverein in Vienna. These are closely followed by performances at the Liszt Academy, Budapest along with a visit to the prestigious Prague Spring Festival before finishing the May leg of the tour in Italy with dates in Perugia, Pavia and Bologna.

The programme during this part of the tour will feature a mixed programme of highlights from Easter, Trinity and Advent Cantatas that will take audiences on a journey across the sacred calendar and showcase some of Bach’s finest and most memorable choral works.

JUNE 2018
Then in June, our attentions turn to what promises to be a landmark series of cantata performances in Leipzig, where  John Eliot Gardiner, in his role as President of the Bach Archiv, to Leipzig has assembled an impressive roster of the world’s best Bach performers. These include Ton Koopman with his Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir, Masaaki Suzuki with the Bach Collegium Japan, and the Gaechinger Cantorey with their new director Hans-Christoph Rademan along with Bach’s own choir, the Thomaner with the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig under Thomaskantor Gotthold Schwarz.

They will be joined by John Eliot Gardiner and the Monteverdi Choir to take part in the Leipzig Cantata Ring: 30 sacred cantatas, performed cyclically over the course of a single weekend, alternating between the churches of St. Thomas and St. Nicholas and arranged by the place of each cantata in the liturgical year – from the first Sunday of Advent to the 27th Sunday after Trinity Sunday.This same ‘Ring’ of cantatas will then travel to London’s Barbican between 15-17 June 2018 for their Bach Weekend before ending the tour in Paris with one final series of cantata performances at the Chapelle Royale, Versailles and the Basilique de St Denis.
