Sie gilt als eine der ungewöhnlichsten Dirigentinnen unserer Zeit: Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla. 2016 wurde die damals 29-jährige Litauerin zur Chefdirigentin des renommierten City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra gewählt. Als Nachfolgerin von Sir Simon Rattle und Andris Nelsons ist sie die erste Frau an der Spitze des renommierten Orchesters. Ihr Umgang mit Musik und Musikern steht für einen Kulturwandel in der klassischen Musik. Der Film begleitet die außergewöhnliche junge Frau zu verschiedenen Stationen ihrer ersten eineinhalb Jahre beim CBSO.

Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla ist eine Ausnahmeerscheinung und widerspricht gänzlich dem traditionellen Bild eines „Maestro“. Aufgewachsen in einer Musikerfamilie, war ihre Welt immer voller Musik. Von klein auf war sie mit ihren Eltern auf Konzertreisen unterwegs. Trotz rascher internationaler Erfolge als klassische Musikerin passt sie in keine Tradition und Konvention. Sie versteht sich als gleichberechtigter Teil des Orchesters, nicht nur dadurch entwickelt sie Berufsbild und Position des Dirigenten vollkommen neu.

Daniela Schmidt-Langels versucht, dem Erfolgsgeheimnis des jungen Talents auf die Spur zu kommen und begleitet in ihrem Porträt die Künstlerin eineinhalb Jahre lang. Die Kamera begleitet sie bei ihrem Antrittskonzert mit dem CBSO in Birmingham, mit dem Star-Geiger Gidon Kremer in der Berliner Philharmonie oder in ihrer Heimat Litauen beim Unterricht des Dirigenten-Nachwuchses. Beobachtet man sie bei den Proben, wie sie zuhört, Ideen und Anregungen setzt, scheint es, als sei sie mit jeder Faser ihres Körpers Teil der Musik. Ihre forschende wie fordernde Konzentration wirkt offensichtlich ansteckend und versetzt Orchester und Publikum in höchste Erwartung. Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla selbst sieht sich auf einer Reise: Angetrieben von ihren Träumen, sucht sie stets das Neue, das Ungewöhnliche und vermag mit ihrer Begeisterungsfähigkeit alle mitzureißen.

She is considered one of the most unusual conductors of our time: Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla. In 2016, the then 29-year-old Lithuanian was elected Principal Conductor of the prestigious City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. As the successor to Sir Simon Rattle and Andris Nelsons, she is the first woman to lead the prestigious orchestra. Their handling of music and musicians represents a cultural change in classical music. The film accompanies the extraordinary young woman to various stages of her first year and a half at the CBSO.

Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla is an exception and completely contradicts the traditional image of a „maestro“. Growing up in a family of musicians, her world was always full of music. From an early age she was on tour with her parents. Despite rapid international successes as a classical musician, it fits in no tradition and convention. She sees herself as an equal part of the orchestra, and not only because of this she develops the professional image and position of the conductor completely new.

Daniela Schmidt-Langels tries to get to the bottom of the success secret of the young talent and accompanies the artist for one and a half years in her portrait. The camera accompanies her at her inaugural concert with the CBSO in Birmingham, with the star violinist Gidon Kremer in the Berlin Philharmonic or in her home country of Lithuania in teaching the young conductors. If you observe them in the rehearsals as she listens, gives ideas and suggestions, it seems as if she is part of the music with every fiber of her body.
