Francesco Tristano Schlimé (* 16. September 1981) ist ein luxemburgischer Pianist, Komponist und Produzent. Er tritt unter dem Namen Francesco Tristano auf.

J.S. Bach´s Goldbergvariationen bilden nicht nur einen Höhepunkt im instrumentalen Werk des Komponisten, sondern gehören zu den herausragenden Werken barocker Variationskunst überhaupt. In diesem Zyklus, bestehend aus einer Aria mit 30 „Veränderungen“, entwickelt Bach eine musikalische Architektur, die sowohl die Einzelsätze zueinander in ein sinnvolles Verhältnis bringt, als auch alle Spielarten kontrapunktischer Satzkunst in kunstvoller Vollendung aufblühen lässt.
Seitdem hat sich fast jeder große Pianist an diesem Werk versucht, von Glen Gould bis Alexandre Tharaud oder Igor Levit.

Die Einspielung des jungen Luxemburgers Francesco Tristano ist besonders ambitioniert. Er entwickelt zu dem klingenden Variationswerk eine Visualisierung, er begreift Bachs Musik als architektonische Utopie.
Die Idee zu diesem Projekt geht zurück auf den Komponisten und Architekten lannis Xenakis und seine Idee einer „Kosmischen Stadt“.

Francesco Tristano hat darauf aufbauend ein visuelles Design-Konzept entwickelt, das in Echtzeit direkt durch sein eigenes Spiel generiert wird. Hier wird die musikalische Struktur der Goldbergvariationen als Analogie zur Entwicklung von Stadt-Räumen gelesen. Der Flügel steht vor einer großen Projektionsfläche, auf der sich ein mehrdimensionales Spiel mit Räumen und Formen entwickelt – alles live gesteuert durch die Musik.

The recording of the young Luxembourger Francesco Tristano is particularly ambitious. He develops a visualization for the sounding variation work, he understands Bach’s music as an architectural utopia.
